Who writes this

Written and maintained by Dr Nirmalya Hore, an emergency medicine physician working in the NHS. ResusDoc is an independent personal project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or speaking for any NHS body, royal college, medical school or manufacturer.

The site carries no advertising and no sponsorship, and accepts no payment from any commercial party for content or placement.

How the content is produced

These pages are drafted with AI assistance and verified by a clinician before publication. That verification means the guideline criteria on each page are checked against the primary source — the published guideline text itself, not a summary of it — and any figure, threshold or quotation that cannot be traced to that source is removed rather than softened.

Interactive pathways are additionally tested against worked cases covering each branch of their logic, including the edge cases, before release.

Known limitations

• Guidelines change. Each page names the guideline and version it implements and the date it was reviewed. NICE updates its guidance periodically; check the current version before relying on any page here.
• Decision rules do not replace judgement. Every tool here implements published criteria. Criteria are derived from populations, and your patient is one person. A tool saying "no imaging indicated" is a statement about the guideline, never a discharge decision.
• Local protocols take precedence. Where your trust's trauma protocol differs, follow your trust's protocol.
• Guidelines are sometimes internally inconsistent. Where that happens, these tools flag the inconsistency and leave the judgement with you rather than silently choosing a reading.

Review

Pages are reviewed at least annually, and sooner when the underlying guidance changes.
